Applications - Applying Fluxtrol
An induction coil without Fluxtrol SMC material is being used for induction hardening of a crankshaft in a production line.
Heat Gremlins: "HEEE HEE HEEEE! HAHAH! We love these inefficient systems!"
Production Manager: "I just don't get it! I'm running my system at 100% - everything is working well, but after 1000 parts my coil starts to leak, and I can never repair my coils fast enough to keep up with production. If only I could get rid of those pesky gremlins that are destroying my coils. They're going to run us out of business!"
Fluxtrol Man: "Hey, I heard your call. What seems to be the problem?"
Production Manager: "It's those darn heat gremlins! They're ruining us! I can't keep my line running!"
Production Manager: "See what I mean?"
Fluxtrol Man: "Yes I do! Here's what you need!"
Fluxtrol Man: "These are my SMC materials, also known as magnetic flux controllers. They are going to improve the efficiency of your induction coil by directing the magnetic field towards the surface of your part. They will also block the field from heating up your carbide shoes."
Production Manager: "That's amazing, Fluxtrol Man! But how is this going to stop those red gremlins from destroying my coil?"
Fluxtrol Man: "When the carbide shoes are hot, they wear out quickly. The carbide shoes are what protect your coil from contact with the part, which is the source of the gremlins. This optimized coil will now have a much longer life, reducing your overall energy consumption and downtime!"
The production manager turns on his machine. Part after part heats up and reaches its optimal temperature.
The shoes stay cold and the gremlins flee!
Heat Gremlins: "Curse those Fluxtrol SMC materials! Let's get out of here!"
